At 30 years old, Saints star running back Alvin Kamara could be set for a career high year with all the responsibility on his back amidst their woeful offensive situation. With the QB room in New Orleans being all over the place, and no starting job set in stone, the snaps will be on Kamara’s back more times that not next season, and his responsibilities will be higher than ever.
Kamara has been through all sorts of teams with the Saints, playoff teams, mediocre on the outside looking in teams, and pretty bad teams, but this one could be weighing up to be the worst. After the retirement of Derek Carr left the Saints with Desmond Ridder and Tyler Shough as the top two options, Kamara is arguably going to be the most important part of the Saints offense, and will likely take the majority of the snaps next year.
The former third round pick has become a consistent top 15 running back in the NFL, and in the last few years, his stats have elevated to another level. Picking up a career high 950 rushing yards last season, the yards are only going to increase for him, and with much more offense being run through him in their current QB situation, Kamara is set to be the forefront of the Saints offense.
It isn't a secret that they are in for another slow and disappointing season, but watching a player like Alvin Kamara is always something to look forward too, and now, it is Kamara’s offense more than anybody else’s, and his veteran presence and talent might be enough to get the Saints over the line at least a couple of times next season. But among the poor list of talent in New Orleans, Alvin Kamara is set for a big year, and as his talents and stats might peak, his leadership and responsibility will also be on show.
