The July Newmarket meeting is well under way and an already jubilant weekend for Charlie Appleby and William Buick on their home track could get that little bit better with a July Cup victory later today. Buick who rode his 2,000th winner on Thursday will aim to add a second consecutive July Cup to his name on top of supplemented Notable Speech, a miler who is making his case to be a serious contender.
Appleby who had a rough time at Ascot has regained his form with a staggering week at his home track at Newmarket, and with his 4 year old Notable Speech making great claims ahead of the race, a victory in the July Cup for the Godolphin blue could be ahead.
A plethora of great sprinters enter the race, Symbol Of Honour a six furlong horse ridden by Oisin Murphy makes great claims, Aidan O’Brien’s Whistlejacket, another six furlong sprinter who is a big contender, but it is Notable Speech who looks the favourite, and a drop back in trip may be no problem for the horse, and could easily cruise to victory under Buick.
Notable Speech, who won the Newmarket 200 Guineas and Sussex Stakes last year has a very impressive turn of foot, and on a familiar track with ideal ground conditions may play the deciding factor in the race. Being a smart traveller who is blessed with speed , a shorter trip could prove easier for a horse like him, and the supplement cost of £36,000 means Appleby and Godolphin mean business, and have high hopes for their former Guineas winner.
Being the leading contender, and a major player in the race, the drop back in trip, and considering his amazing attributes like speed and turn of foot, he is a horse that is well worth exploring, and at a current price of 9/4 (as of 12;30) could well be an sure bet. But, amongst a field of sprinters who are considered major players as well, it looks like the Godolphin miler could easily walk away with the race, and could make the sprinters look underwhelming. A horse with such class like Notable Speech is a very interesting horse in the race, and come four o’clock, could just have too much to handle. Track comfortability and knowledge, class and speed, and the company of a top class jockey, Notable Speech is a name to remember for this year's Dubai July Cup.
