Former sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft Daniel Jones signed a one year, $14 million contract with the Cots after spending the rest of last season with the Vikings. The 27 year old former first round pick has had a turbulent time in the NFL so far, but now amongst a pretty weak quarterback room in Indianapolis, it isn't time to count his NFL career out quite yet.

Jones, who signed a massive $160 million, four year deal with the Giants in 2023 after a convincing season, was cut from the team in the back end of last season, eventually joining the Vikings on a short term deal. But now after being known as the guy who was handed arguably the worst contract in NFL history, he finds himself in a situation where he could revive his NFL career.

The Colts QB room is not looking too flattering at the moment, and with their former first round pick Anthony Richardson not living up to expectations, and newly drafted rookie Riley Leonard not likely to earn any first team reps in his first year, Jones has a good chance at earning himself the starting job in Indianapolis.

The former fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, Anthony Richardson hasn't exactly proved himself as of yet, and being stricken with injuries and setbacks throughout his short career, this year's training camp might be vital in order for him to keep his starting job. After being benched for Joe Flacco last season on numerous occasions, and concerns over his fitness and healthiness ahead of most games, Richardson will have to prove himself even more against a veteran like Jones.

Both haven't exactly lit up the NFL per say, but with Jones having the edge in ability, and in the stats column, the Colts may take the route of Jones ahead of Richardson to see his response, and to see how hard he can work to earn back his number one spot. With Jones determined to earn an extension in Indianapolis, and determined to keep his NFL career alive, Richardson will likely have to work ten times harder to prove he can be their guy at the NFL level.

With a career total of 14,582 yards, with 70 touchdowns, and a 64.1% completion rate, along with his playoff experience with the Giants, Jones may appeal more, and may be the experience the Colts may lean towards this season. Although Jones has disappointed, and shown some serious flaws in his game over the last couple of years, it may be his starting job this year, and it would be silly to count him out right now. Although Richardson is bursting with talent, but is yet to open the floodgates, Jones’ nothing to lose mentality may just edge him over the 2023 first rounder.
