Liverpool are prepared to go toe to toe with Real Madrid in pursuit of 21 year old Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba this January. With barely any summer window activity for Liverpool under the new management of Arne Slot, it's likely we will see some activity for the reds come this January, and one area which Arne Slot aims to target is the defender position, identifying 21 year old French defender Castello Lukeba to add depth to the defence or even as replacement for Virgil Van Dijk had he decide come next season. With Van Dijk’s contract coming to an end at the end of this season,. It's unsure whether he will renew his contract with the reds, meaning all bases need to be covered for Arne slot come next season, and he aims to do it early by preparing to battle with European giants Real Madrid for the young star defender. At the moment, Lukeba has a contract with RB Leipzig through the 2029 season, but both Liverpool and Real Madrid have identified the Frenchman has a £75 million buy out clause, which Liverpool are prepared to pay to bring the youngster to Merseyside. With Konate solidifying his place in the team and still being only 25 and under contract until 2026, Slot is without a doubt looking to bring in a future replacement for the ageing Van Dijk, with Quansah seeming to be unfavoured by the Dutch manager. It's safe to assume the Frenchman wouldn't think twice about joining the reds under this new successful setup, but the challenge from relentless Real Madrid may make the task of signing Lukeba, that little bit harder for the Reds.
