San Antonio, Houston, New York, and Phoenix are just some of the names which keep popping up in the Giannis Antetokounmpo conversations, but one southern state in particular has their eye on the former NBA champion, but would have to sacrifice a lot for the privilege.

The rumours have been flying that Milwaukee Bucks legend Giannis Antetokounmpo could be on his way out, and has recently stated he likes the idea of potentially joining a tax free state. With Florida and Texas filling the criteria, and two Texan teams in particular catching the eye of the Greek international, Houston seem to be racking their brains as to how they can bring the two time MVP winner to the Toyota Center.

Although he is ageing, and we have likely seen the best of Giannis, his talent, value, and freakish abilities are still there, maybe not as good as they were, but is definitely still championship calibre, and is a massive asset to boost teams from one level to championship level. With his eyes set on a move to make the most money, the Rockets who had a good year this year by reaching the playoffs are very intrigued by the idea of bringing Giannis, but will have to put a lot on the table for the Greek freak, but will it be too much of a risk, and too much of a future sacrifice?

Names like Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr, and even Alperen Sengun have come up in trade proposals around the NBA fanbase, but not only star talent which would be future stars for Houston, but sacrificing at least three or future first round picks would be a massive mistake given their current championship window. Its it no doubt that bringing Giannis in would rapidly speed up their hopes at winning a championship, but had they move a haul of future picks in the next three to five years, and some exciting future talent like Sengun, shortening their window and future for some temporary success would not be a good move for Houston. Similarly with their Texan compatriots, San Antonio would love to imagine the Giannis, Wembanayama duo, but with a future cast of stars, giving them up now for a two year window of unpredictable success wouldn't be a good idea.

Even though the Rockets only need a push to be contending next year, sacrificing so much wouldn't be good for business, and given that they are in a perfect situation now after years of bad seasons, they shouldn't be in a ‘win now’ mindset, and should be excited by the product of their lineup now, and how good they can really become.

Giannis wearing anybody’s jersey in the NBA would bring thrilling excitement to any fan, but in the Rockets case, thinking logically, and trusting the process is a better option than entering ‘win now’ mode, and sacrificing what could be a very bright championship winning team.
