Habs To Go All In On Wallstedt?

With the NHL trade deadline only now a few months away, teams at the top of the ladder will be beginning to get their thoughts ready and packages prepped, and with time caving in fast, many players across the league may find themselves on the trade block. IOne of those guys in particular is the Minnesota Wild’s Jesper Wallstedt, and the Montreal Canadiens may be licking their lips purely at the thought of him ending up as a viable trade option.

The Habs are on an absolute tear this season, their young guns are showing out, their core is rocking, and they are one of the more exciting teams to watch in the league. They have the perfect mix of aggression, speed, scoring, and playmaking, but one thing that really gets you on the edge of your seat when watching the Habs is their goaltending. It is far from fluent, the consistency isn't there, and changes need to be made and for Kent Hughes, Wallstedt may be that guy.

On the other side of the border, it is said to be believed that the Minnesota Wild may be looking to move on from rookie goaltending sensation Jesper Wallstedt in order to better their team and receive a big time deal ahead of a hopefully lengthy playoff run. With how good Wallstedt has come into the league it will be easy to flip him for a very big package, and no other destination sticks out more than Montreal.

This season hasn;t been the year to remember for starting goaltender Sam Montembault, and definitely hasn’t been a breakout year for Jakub Dobes, and if there is one statement move they need to make, it is now for a guy like Wallstedt. Stats aside, the confidence and desire from both of the Habs tenders hasn’t been playoff worthy, and will continue to cause issues for them, and when you have a general manager like Kent Hughes, these issues get cleaned up as soon as they appear.

In terms of what a package could look like, something like trading Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook or Alex Texier along with a n elite level prospect could be a move that could tempt Minnesota, and for the Habs, is a move that moving replaceable guys like them is a no brainer. Although Texier and Newhook have been playing a great game this year, and have settled in well to the season, sometimes these sacrifices need to be made, and for the greater good of the team's direction this year, it would be without question they could be moved for a game changer like Wallstedt. It is a big ask for the Habs, and will take time, but for Montreal, there could be no better opportunity, and they may need to be the first to strike with a big offer soon.
