With recent success in the draft, the 2025 NBA draft lottery means even more success for the Spurs as they secure the number two pick in the draft behind the Mavericks, securing themselves another roll of the dice to upgrade their exciting team even further.

The Spurs have utilised the draft perfectly in the last couple of years, drafting their franchise guy in Victor Wembanyama in 2023, and the newly crowned rookie of the year Stephon Castle with the fourth overall pick in last year's draft. But with their newly acquired second overall pick in this year's draft, the Spurs will have the chance to add yet another weapon to their ever growing team of talent.

Over the last few years, the Spurs front office have done a perfect job at synthesising a contending team, and with an already good looking starting five, plagued by injuries, the fate of their second overall pick may just boost them up to that next level they almost definitely can reach.

With the starting five including future MVP Victor Wembanyama, their hot rookie Stephon Castle, 2020 first rounder Devin Vassell, and former All-Star De’Aaron Fox all locked in to the starting five, not to mention those who are still in contention like Jeremy Sochan, there is one clear spot in the team that could be filled in this year’s draft for San Antonio.

After signing a short term deal with the Spurs at the start of the year, league veteran, and multiple time All-Star Chris Paul added a much needed veteran presence onto this young Spurs team, but with his deal over at the start of next season, and with age comes a depletion in production, don't be surprised if the Spurs look towards a point guard in this years draft. One player in particular who will be sticking out for the Spurs will be Rutgers star Dylan Harper.

This year's draft was bound to be a good one for the Spurs with two picks in the top 14, a great move made by the Spurs front office some time ago, but jumping from eight to two only bolstered their hopes to massively upgrade their roster even more. And with Dylan Harper sitting nicely behind Cooper Flagg, the former number one ranked prospect for a lot of people will be hard to pass up on for the Spurs, and his fit amongst Castle and Fox for next season looks too perfect to be true for San Antonio.

Regardless of how Harper or anybody who they will pick turns out, the Spurs front office have arguably done one of the best jobs in the league in terms of building their roster back up through the draft, and have managed roster transactions perfectly to create a contending team. Barring any injuries next season, the Spurs are on fior an amazing season, and with two back to back rookie of the year’s, a solid contender for next year’s rookie of the year award, and a supporting cast of young and mesmerizing talent, the Spurs are a team everyone should be excited to watch next year.
