After a cryptic tweet which leads all signs to Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Al Nassr after a two year spell with the Saudi club, a new move in the horizon again for the five time Ballon D’or winner as a number of clubs look to inquire about the all time great.

After another amazing season at 40 years old, with 25 goals in the Saudi League, Ronaldo who made the Saudi League what it is today, and gave the league an identity is likely to leave the club after a frustrating season and look for a move. And although Ronaldo is capable of playing for at least two more years, another move to another small club may just be continuing the downfall of his legacy.

It is no doubt that Ronaldo will always be remembered as one of the worlds all time best football players, but over the last couple of years at Manchester United, Juventus, and Al Nassr, his legacy he built at Real Madrid is slowly fading. With a massive generation of football fans remembering Ronaldo for the footballing machine he was at Real Madrid, a new generation of football fans will likely never get to experience the true Ronaldo, and is building himself a poor legacy for people these days to remember him by.

With teams like Besiktas and Monterrey knocking at the door, another move to a small league with barely any competition will only further this downfall, and will not be a good look for kids looking up to him. Unlike Lionel Messi who spent his entire career with Barcelona and only recently took the move to retire with Inter Miami, Ronaldo joining another club will ruin how people remember him, and would be another pointless step in an attempt to further his already legendary career.

As rumours circulate that Monterrey of the Mexican League look to bring Ronaldo to link up with former teammate Sergio Ramos for the Club World Cup campaign, although it would be a nostalgia and wholesome move, Monterrey would just become another futile team that Ronaldo would join on his farewell tour, not a good look for a player who was once the biggest name in football.

Joining Manchester United back in 2021 was definitely where Ronaldo’s success filled career began to fade. After a storybook return turned sour, and a toxic exit from his former club ended his chapter in an unsuccessful hero story in Manchester, Al Nassr was the place which people felt his career really began to die, and another statusless club to add to his resume would just be another bad and regretful move he would look back on.
