Warning Signs at Brentford: Why the Bees Could Be Headed for a Sting

First it was Thomas Frank, then it was Bryan Mbeumo, and soon it could be Yoane Wissa. Brentford’s big three has crumbled swiftly in a matter of months, and a quiet transfer window, with no big moves, and no real replacements, they could be in real trouble this year, and more passive tactics as the window closes, and no blockbuster moves being made, the bees are headed towards a place they really don't want to be.

Unfortunately for Brentford fans, the reality is that they will be nowhere near as good or productive as they were for the last couple of seasons, and with their first real taste of what it is like to have your core robbed in the Premier League, their response hasn't been too promising. After losing star striker Ivan Toney a couple of years ago, Wissa and Mbeumo managed to keep the ship afloat for a couple of years, but now, there is no clear and obvious captain for that ship anymore in Brentford.

Not only have they had arguably their two best players poached in Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard, their top class manager Thomas Frank departed to North London to take on the challenge that is Tottenham Hotspur, leaving former set piece coach Keith Andrews in charge. As Andrews takes on the 2025/26 season, losing Norgaard, Mbeumo, and potentially Wissa whilst also having no incoming transfers to fill their spots doesn't bode well in their campaign next season, and will probably find themselves battling in the lower half of the table as all signs point to a massive drop off for the bees.

Although the last few years of promoted teams haven't lit up the Premier League, Brentford’s outlook on next season is a big positive for those at the bottom, and gives hope going forward with the potentially massive repercussions for Brentford. Losing your two biggest goal scorers, and arguably your three best players with no replacements, on top of losing a manager who knew the club and the players inside and out, Brentford could be in big trouble, and the future isn't looking too bright so far.
