Despite losing the first battle of Alberta of the year, the Oilers looked sharp, poised to score a lot of goals, and a few new guys managed to make their mark on the team early, and one in particular was Czechia’s David Tomasek, but how big a role could he play for the Oilers this season?

In the wake of a number of new additions to Kris Knoblauch’s Edmonton Oilers this season, former SHL bags man David Tomasek was one of the more notable additions to the team last night in their opener against rivals Calgary, and a solid offensive performance alongside some of the big boys may mean his role on the team could get even bigger with time.

Tomasek who was a known goal scorer during his time in the SHL last season, scoring 24 goals with 33 assists on the year, also previously having lots of experience across Europe and Russia. Tomasek is a player who has played in North America during his junior days with the Belleville Bulls before returning to Czechia, and now, at 29 after making his long awaited NHL debut, he is already producing and batting with some of the league's best players.

Having seen ice time with Leon Draisaitl and briefly with Connor McDavid, Tomasek earned himself his first NHL point via an assist to teammate Leon Draisaitl, and a nice one to say the least. He showed himself to be offensively versatile, and a player who can easily roll all four lines, especially as a playmaker.

Being a low-risk addition for Edmonton, during a time of injury for the likes of Zach Hyman, Tomasek could really make himself known as a depth goal scorer for the Oilers, and is looking like he is going to be a really useful guy for Kris Knoblauch. With how the likes of Matthew Savoie and Trent Frederic played last night, it isn’t crazy to suggest that Tomasek could earn himself a much bigger role in time, and he is already proving that his talents could be of very productive use this year for Edmonton, and his talents haven’t fully been on show yet.
