The New York Jets seem to have a problem on their hands heading into the 2025/26 season, but not a problem to complain about. With Breece Hall and Braelon Allen both making claims for the starting running back job, the chances of rookie Allen driving Hall out of a job is higher than you may think, and Allen may just have enough to secure the RB1 job before the season starts.

Fourth round pick in the 2024 draft Braelon Allen surprised fans last season after putting up a respectable 334 yard season as a backup, and picked up two touchdowns as a 20 year old. Although he seemed may be off par from Hall who was the locked down starting back for New York, this year's training camp suggests Allen has improved massively over the offseason, and Breece Hall’s job as a starter could be in jeopardy.

Last season Hall put up 876 rushing yards in 16 games, and scored five touchdowns, but as his performances declined over the course of the year, Allen's responsibilities became much more prominent, and next season, they could burrow even more. Hall’s spot as the starter in New York has been a talking point for a while now, and similarly with what is happening with Kenneth Walker in Seattle, Allen may have enough next year to beat out Hall, and take the starting job.

Breece Hall isn't a player that should be considered a perfect trade piece, but it is hard to ignore what Allen is doing in training camp, and splitting the plays could be difficult. Sure we have seen Detroit succeed with the dual back rotation with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, but Allen and Hall, it doesn't seem like a rotation will work.

Allen’s work and improvement is once again similar to Charbonnet’s improvement in Seattle, and Hall could end up suffering a demotion, and may look elsewhere to take his talents. Hall definitely still has enormous trade value, and whether New York wants to trade him or not is a big question. His upside is still there, but declining performances mean maybe something just isn't clicking. Allen on the other hand, at only 21 still has so much more to give, and with a rookie season which showed extremely bright sparks, Allen has every chance of driving Hall out of New York, and could be made starter at any point during the year.
