Why Will Levis Will Never Start A Game As A QB Again

The Tennessee Titans are one of those teams who just haven't gotten it right on a number of occasions in the quarterback department in the last few years, but after drafting Miami QB Cam Ward with their number one overall pick in this year's draft, it looks like they may have finally gotten it right.

But with all the rave around Ward and the new beginnings in Tennessee, one man is out of favour, and could never see himself step onto the field as a starting QB ever again in the NFL. That man is Will Levis.

Levis was selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, and would join the Titans as the third string quarterback behind starter Ryan Tannehill, and rookie Malik Willis who the Titans had picked the previous year. Levis was tipped to be a great quarterback, and a number of people said he was the steal of the draft for Tennessee. But after a solid few games after overtaking both Willis and Tannehill for the starting job at the end of the 2023/24 season, Levis looked like he may have been the man for the job for the Titans, and earned his starting job right from the very bottom.

The start of the 2024/25 season saw Levis earn the starting role, and after his end to the 23/24 campaign, the anticipation and excitement for Levis was through the roof. But the 2024/25 season quickly began to turn against him as during his first five games as a starter in the new season, he went 1-4, with seven interceptions, ultimately becoming the player with the most turnovers in the NFL. However as the season went on, and injuries occurred, Levis began to lose favour in Tennessee, and was eventually benched, and rotated with backup Mason Rudolph as the inevitable end came for Levis in Tennessee.

Finishing his sophomore season with a pass completion percentage of 63.1%, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, the Titans secured the number one overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and Levis’ numbers, and on field performances didn't look too good, and with the Titans sights set on a fresh start at the QB position, Levis’ time would quickly be over.

Although most believe Levis hasn't been given a good enough chance, his play and ability has slowly faded from what it once was in college, and his talent conversion to the NFL level has shown to be a disappointment. With him now slipping out of favour as the backup during training camp in Tennessee, Levis is heavily tipped to be cut from Tennessee, and with a number of QBs entering the league this year, and most teams having solid depth at the position, not only will it be extremely hard for Levis to find a starting job, it will be even harder for him to find a backup job.

The former second round pick has shown that he clearly doesn't have what it takes to be a solid NFL starter on a consistent basis. Despite highlighting some amazing abilities such as his 98 yard franchise record touchdown pass, he didn't show enough, and in this era’s NFL, plays as rare as that just won't cut it for Levis. The once highly anticipated QB has been second best throughout his entire NFL career, and probably hasn't been put in the best environment to show what he can do, but when Tennessee needed him the most, he didn't show up, and will only be remembered, as the the guy who sacrificed his career, for their new starting franchise QB in Cam Ward.
