Madueke's Transfer: A Deal That History May Not Be Kind To

Yet another typical piece of business between Arsenal and Chelsea sees technical wizkid Noni Madueke make the switch from red to blue but has fans divided over the hefty £50 million price tag. And with a striker yet to be purchased, and the Madueke deal turning heads, it could be a deal to remember in the future, but not for the right reasons.

Madueke seemed to be a shining star among the masses at Stamford Bridge after an early season hot streak, highlighting his goal scoring knack and speed against Wolves early on in the year, but as rotation begun to do the rounds at Chelsea, the former PSV winger found himself excluded from the line up on numerous occasions, and with even more inbound to Stamford Bridge, his place at the Chelsea table was well and truly removed. But as one door closed in West London, another up north opened as Premier League runners up Arsenal sealed a £50 million deal last night to bring the English talent to the club, but it is safe to say it isn't a deal that has impressed.

Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard are were Mikel Arteta’s first two signings of the summer, and with the heavily anticipated deal for Sporting number nine Viktor Gyokeres pending, the half a ton Madueke deal has divided opinions, and could be a massive deal which just doesn't make sense. As Bukayo Saka looks the concrete, no question option for the right wing spot in Arteta’s wide system, and youngster Ethan Nwaneri being the sole challenger to his place, the narrative has made a complete 180 with the arrival of Madueke, and could leave Nwaneri in a tough decision regarding his future in North London. And although the ongoing search for an out and out left winger continues for Arsenal, Madueke isn't the guy they are looking for, and had the go down the LW route for him, it wouldn't be a ‘Premier League challengers’ type signing, and could prove to be a major waste of money.

With well over £100 million spent and no striker deal in sight, the confusing Madueke transfer has left a £50 million hole in their summer budget, and had this effect their striker desires could be a massive reason for issues at Arsenal throughout the season. It is without a doubt that Madueke is a technically gifted and talented player, but his fit in the Arsenal project, and his overall first in the Arteta scheme just doesn't make sense, and looks like it could just have been a £50 million panic buy, and people will always remember this deal in the next few months and even years, but not for the right reasons, but as a lapse of judgement, and poor financial decision making.
