How Will Jakobi Meyers Fare As The Jags Immediate WR1?

The news just broke that Brian Thomas Jr will be absent from the Jaguars game against the Texans on Sunday due to a high ankle sprain, and with Travis Hunter also absent with a knee injury, new addition Jakobi Meyers will likely be thrown in the deep end for Liam Coen’s Jags, and could be a very intriguing weapon for Trevor Lawrence.

After trading for Meyers just before the trade deadline on Tuesday, Meyers was the Raiders number one slot receiver, and was one of the hottest trade candidates on the market. The Jaguars who have had their fair share of receiving trouble this season were the ones who decided it was time to make the move, and luckily they have a guy who can play a massive role straight away.

In terms of receivers, Jakobi Meyers is arguably one of the best slot receivers in the NFL, and as for joining a new setup, and a setup who has had a lot of trouble through the air, Meyers is a guy who Lawrence will use to his advantage on Sunday, and is the perfect guy for making the simple plays look easy.

Meyers, who currently has 352 yards from 33 receptions so far has yet to score a touchdown, however with his role set to be elevated on Sunday in the wake of injuries, his slot game will compliment Parker Washington’s game very novelty, and will be a very interesting combo for Lawrence and his offense. Brian Thomas Jr hasn’t been the receiver the Jags saw last year, and has had a lot of issues with drops and poor play, however a fresh face like Meyers who knows the slot game better than anyone else, it looks like Coen and the Jags are going back to making simple and easy offense, and Meyers is your number one guy to do that.

Meyers’ game in Las Vegas has depleted massively since his first game in which he received for 97 yards against his former team New England, and since has only been averaging around 30. However now, it is easy to see how many more targets Meyers could get, and a step back up to anywhere in the 60 to 70 yard range would be a plus for both the Jags and Meyers and would make for a very promising debut.
