Manchester United ‘Is Still A Commercial Club’ Says Former Manager Louis Van Gaal

It is no secret that Manchester United are the most financially and commercially run club currently in the Premier League, and bad business, staff cuts, and poorly managed finances have led to the teams financial downfall, but it seems people are forgetting that they are still a football club, and not just a business.

We could talk for hours about how badly the Glazers have managed their ownership in Manchester United, but recently, things have become tougher financially for the club under Jim Ratcliffe, and extreme measures within the club have been the headline for United all season and not the football.

Former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gall stated in an interview that Man United are ‘still a commercial club, it's not a football club’, and outlined how those behind the scenes have driven Manchester United to where they are now due to lack of communication and understanding with managers and the needs of the club. The last few years have seen some terrible business moves, and a lot of disregard for manager interests, but as Van Gaal said, when people hear or think about United now, it is the financials that come into play.

Following their Europa League final loss to Tottenham, and 15th place league finish, staff cuts, bonuses, and even harsher measures were taken to make financial gain within the club, even worldwide tours, all just to earn a bit of cash. The true status and culture that Man United once had is now gone, and every chance they get at promo, or commercial and financial gain, like we saw with their Malaysia tour, the team is simply a money maker for those in charge.

But with Amorim on the hot seat, it is no help that those above him don't give him a voice, and like Van Gaal said, it is hard for a team to be a football club when those who manage the team don't have their say.
