Why Chelsea Look Poised for a Deep Champions League Run This Season

A very impressive 3-0 victory over Hansi Flick’s Barcelona last night sees Chelsea earn their third victory from five in the UCL so far this season, and they are sitting in a very comfortable fifth place. Chelsea are a team who with all their budding talent should be true competitors in these big competitions in years to come, but this year they look  more than ready for a deep Champions League run.

With the amount of talent that Chelsea have in and out of the lineup, it is difficult to see within this format how they do not have a deep run in the UCL, and a triumphant win against Spanish giants Barca proved they are very much up to the task. They are a team who have lots and lots of great young talent, and despite conquering the Club World Cup last year, they still looked very raw, however their young stars seem to just be looking better as the weeks go by.

With teams like Atalanta, Pafos, and Napoli left to play in their first stage of the competition, the situation they are currently in, with the points they already have, it really seems like their deep squad depth will come in extremely handy for the rest of the group stage, and will play a massive advantage in balancing numerous tournaments within the week. Last night it was highlighted that it wasn’t an issue at all breaking tough teams down, and the youth movement is already in full effect, and they look more electric than ever.

When back to full fitness, Chelsea look a very dangerous team on paper, and with prior proof they can beat some of the best teams in the world such as holders PSG, when guys like Cole Palmer returns, that only makes them even stronger, and for a team who isn’t looking so flashy in the Premier League, they just look poised for Champions League success with the team they are working with.
