Sell or Stagnate: United Risk Falling Further Behind Without a Summer Clear-Out

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United have brought in their fair share of talent during this summer transfer window, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko just to name a few. But as well as buying, selling is even more important for Amorim to get his message across, and with some serious dead weight still kicking at Carrington, they need to act fast, and decisions need to be made quickly.

There are a number of players at Manchester United who were poised for Summer exits, some already leaving like homegrown hero Marcus Rashford, but there should be more to come. Those like Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund are just a couple of the players who Man United are ready to ship off, but at this point, loaning isn’t enough.

The whole Garnacho saga at United has been going on for some time now, and with Chelsea clearly making some heavy noise on the Manchester United door, they should have managed to ship him off earlier, no matter how much they are missing out on, their delays have just made the inevitable much more complicated. Similarly with the Antony transfer to Real Betis, the Brazilian winger is a player who will indubitably never play another game for Manchester United, and deliberating over fees that you could count on one hand is pointless, yet another example of how bad they have managed outgoings so far this season.

Nevertheless, selling was always going to be a big thing for Manchester United with lots of failed transfers poised to make moves elsewhere, but at this point, they are making it too difficult for themselves to offload. It is understandable that they want to squeeze as much monetary worth out of their players that they can, but holding out on transfer stalemates, keeping dead wood around for longer than they should isn’t the business model a team like Manchester United should have, and with the deadline day closing in on us, it really is crunch time now for United to offload, or else their wage bill behind the scenes will be shocking, and the culture with players in the club who don't play isn’t a good look for a team who are desperately trying to turn things around.
