Brock Bowers deserves OROTY

After a record breaking season by rookie tight end Brock Bowers, he should be the favourite to win the OROTY award, but the bookmakers say otherwise with Jayden Daniels taking the number one spot. The Raiders rookie tight end has put up record breaking numbers, and has become the fourth rookie tight end in NFL history to be named to the AP first team, but still falls behind Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels in the offensive rookie of the year odds. The 22 year old who shattered NFL and franchise records this season is second in the overall OROTY rankings, and will most likely to fall short as Jayden Daniels season heroics puts him firmly in the number one spot. But here's exactly why Bowers truly deserves the award.

Bowers who was drafted 13th overall out of Georgia in last years draft has had nothing short of a monumental season after breaking the Raiders most receptions in a single season record of 112 receptions this year, previously 107 held by Darren Waller in 2020, and has become the primary target in Las Vegas already in his rookie year. But not only has Bowers broken franchise records, but NFL records as a whole in his position. Within his exceptional year, he managed to break Mike Ditka’s record for most receiving yards in a single season by a rookie tight end with 1,194 yards, a record set over 50 years ago. Bowers also managed to take Puka Nacua’s record of most receptions in a single season by a rookie, with his 112 receptions across 17 games. Despite Jayden Daniels also breaking a number of NFL and Franchise records, there is an argument to be made as to how difficult both were to break, but overall both are extremely, and astonishingly great achievements for both rookies.

Amongst all of his records broken this season, and making the AP first team and the Pro Bowl in his rookie year, his stats are nothing to pass up on either. With a record breaking 112 receptions and 1,194 total receiving yards, he also scored 5 touchdowns, and showcased very solid and skillfull blocking, just another pristine skill added to his arsenal. With Bowers playing in a much worse off team, and putting up ridiculous number for a rookie tight end, along with all his achievements, he deserves to be talked more within the OROTY conversation, and deserves to have his achievements recognised, but come awards day, Bowers will have been extremely unlucky not to have won the coveted rookie of the year ward.
