The Chicago Bulls have been a mediocre, play-in team for the best part of the last 25 years, and with a much needed rebuild on the horizon, the Bulls have yet to find their core player to build around.

That was until this season. 25 year old, and former 7th overall pick in the 2019 Coby White has been ballin out this season for the Bulls, and has certainly made his case as to why he should be the core player that the Bulls should build around. The Bulls have had their fair share of failed first round picks in the last decade or two, but after some underwhelming seasons, all signs pointing at his exit out of Chicago, Coby White has revitalised his career this year, and his stats and on court performances have really shown why he is the right man for the Bulls.

Averaging around 10-15 points per game in his first four years as a Bull, White has elevated his game to another level this year, currently averaging just over 20 points per game, and 4.5 assists a game. White is currently under contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, and at $12 million AAV cap hit, is looking like a steal for the Bulls. With players like Patrick Williams, Buzelis, Lonzo Ball, and Vucevic still being key parts of the team, it could be time for the Bulls to completely strip their team, and start fresh, White being the core player.

The Bulls have had major struggles over the years with finding their franchise player, only Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan being the closest to earning that title. But with both now out of Chicago, and not a clear franchise player, the Bulls should definitely capitalise on White’s current electric form, and throw all of their eggs in one basket to make White the core for their much needed rebuild. Players like Buzelis and Giddey are definitely some of the players the Bulls should keep, and are major assets for a rebuild, but with Williams, Vucevic, and Huerter being nothing but filler players in Chicago, a much needed repaint could mean an early exit out of Chicago for the three.

With White’s form the best it has been in his short career, it can only be up from Chicago’s perspective, and is a breath of fresh air to see a player thrive in the red, black, and white, but careful consideration should be taken. Had they decide to rebuild around White, it is vital the Bulls don't make their recurring mistake and sign big names for big contracts, and should build appropriately to compliment White’s qualities. With White and Giddey's chemistry through the roof at the moment, the foundations are well and truly in place for Chicago, and is a great stepping stone for better things to come.
