Bottom of the championship Plymouth Argyle stun Premier league leaders Liverpool in a more than dominant 1-0 win

After a lethargic first 10 minutes into the game, Liverpool faced their first problem as captain Joe Gomez went down in his own half with a non-contact injury, giving way for young right back Isaac Mabaya to make his senior debut. Gomez left the field, with what can only be described as a look of disappointment and disheartened look.

It looked like Liverpool had their first big chance after 20 minutes after a brilliant pass across the field from Quansah to Diaz, until a sublime tackle by Argyle Defender Talovierov stopped the Colombian in his tracks, frustrating the Reds even more.

After a scrappy and unrecognisable performance by Liverpool in the first half an hour, it was James McConnell who took the first real chance for the reds with a lacklustre shot from outside the box, giving the Premier League leaders their first shot on target after 35 minutes.

At the end of the first 45 it was clear Plymouth’s stubborn style of play had frustrated the reds. With only allowing one real chance, and one shot on target, Plymouth definitely had nothing to complain about heading into the second half.

Coming into the second half, Plymouth would look to take the game to Liverpool rather than sit back and counter. Only 3 minutes into the half, Argyle’s Callum Wright creates a brilliant chance which was blocked by Quansah, crucial to keep the game at nil a piece.

It was 51 minutes into the game, when Plymouth won themselves a penalty at the expense of a handball by Harvey Elliot. Seconds later, the 24th place Plymouth Argyle shocked the Premier league leaders as Ryan Hardie slotted the penalty home to give Plymouth a deserved lead.

Plymouth didn't stop being aggressive as Ryan Hardie was denied his second goal of the game by inches as Kelleher tips his shot on to the post.

After a good half hour of defending by Plymouth, a wide open miss by James McConnell in the final minute of regular time gives Plymouth a lifeline, as deep breaths surge across Home Park.

Claps roared around Home Park after a spectacular 92nd minute save by Hazard as Jota’s strike was parried wide by the Plymouth stopper.

The full time whistle, drowned out by the roar of the Argyle fans after an unbelievable win, the FA Cup, once again producing magical results as Plymouth stunned the reds in another classic FA cup tie.
