Getting Elite Pass Rushing is a Must for Chicago in the Offseason

An exceptional season ended in heartbreak for Chicago Bears fans, but now with all roads leading to another busy offseason, pass rushing is an area the Bears need to attack, and it is a must to bring in some elite talent to make their top 5 defense even better at the line of scrimmage.

This year the Bears defense thrived under the command of former Saints head coach Dennis Allen, and from top to bottom a lot of the time they were responsible for the success they had this year. A league high in takeaways, a plethora of great talent leading the league in defensive stats, it was clear that their defense was the star of the show much like it has been in the past, but with time comes big decisions and improvement to make no matter how good they have been, and for Chicago, getting an elite pass rusher is something that definitely held them back this season.

During their divisional match up against the LA Rams, it became obvious that the likes of Montez Sweat and Grady Jarrett had somewhat of a difficulty of getting at Matthew Stafford, and regardless of how good they can be, they aren’t the top 10 guys you want on your team to become dangerous and feared at the line, and that is something Chicago should add this summer. After the likes of Kyler Gordon and CJ Gardner Johnson being utilised as rushers on the blitz on a number of occasions in that game, it pointed out the Bears weaknesses away from the secondary, and it is fair to say you can expect some additions this offseason.

With free agency looking like a good one all around this offseason, there are a good heap of defensive ends that the Bears could 100% target, and could make work with their squad next season. Notably the Bengals Trey Hendrickson is very likely to test the waters of free agency after what has happened between himself and the organisation, and Chicago looks a very tempting and desirable spot for himself, and could be a splash that is for sure worth making. Last year the Bears did not hang around or hesitate when making massive offseason moves, and with how much faith they seem to have in the coaching staff it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if they made massive moves this year too. Aside from Hendrickson, players like Jaelen Phillips who was traded from Miami to Philadelphia this season will also likely head to free agency in his bid to sign a big ticket and move elsewhere, Chicago making a whole lot of sense, salary and team fit wise.

If the Bears decided to head another route, it again wouldn't be a surprise to see them very active in the trade market. There has been murmurs about a number of the leagues best pass rushers and how they could be available, including the likes of Maxx Crosby, and with how many valuable assets the Bears have on their hands and could be willing to trade such as DJ Moore, the definitely have the ammunition to land one of the best rushers in the league.
