The 14/1 Shot Who Could Make A Statement Win In the Epsom Derby

The Epsom Derby is now only hours away and after Aiden O’Brien and Ryan Moore put up another spectacular day with the Oaks win on Minnie Hauk, and a Coronation Cup win by Jan Brueghel, but could be shocked by this 14/1 French outsider on Derby day.

As Delacroix, Ruling Court, and Pride Of Arras line up as close favourites, French three year old Midak could be one to watch, and a sneaky challenger for the frontrunners. Winning three races out of three over 1m3f trips, similar to the derby, Midak looks to earn a heart warming win for his late owner Aga Khan.

Midak, who is a pretty unpredictable horse enters the race supplemented at 14/1, and with weather concerns for those like Delacroix and Ruling Court, Midak’s favour of good to soft ground could play a big part in his fight for a storybook victory. Being a great stayer, and with bags full of stamina, a test over the trick Epsom course may be a challenge, but with three impressive wins over a good trip, and no concerns over stamina, length of trip or any weather concerns as of yet, the 14/1 shot could be worth a stab.

The race itself does look like it could go any way. With many horses not looking too excited at the thought of the tricky course, and owners praying for a drastic weather change, Midak is as good as any horse in this race on his day, and is definitely an interesting pick for a stayer who knows the trip, and has the potential to win it.
