The Seattle Seahawks have had an interesting offseason so far to say the least, but it just got a lot more interesting, but not for the right reasons.

The Seahawks have had a complete overhaul of wide receivers releasing long term veteran Tyler Lockett, and trading D.K Metcalf to the Steelers leaving Jaxson Smith-Njigba as the only elite receiver left in Seattle. But with concerns over the quarterback situation in Seattle, it was just announced they are signing Sam Darnold to a three years deal worth $100 million.

The rumours were surrounding Seattle and Darnold for weeks with the likelihood of Minnesota moving on from Darnold, but the massive deal has now depleted Seattle to just over $30 million in cap space down from $67 million, leaving a short margin for error in their search for some receivers.

But the Darnold deal is not a sensible deal for the Seahawks at all. Darnold was bound to receive a massive payday after his amazing breakout year last year in Minnesota, but with him and his agent cashing out when his value is at its highest the Seahawks may have made a massive mistake. Darnold had an exceptional year with Minnesota finishing the season with 4,319 total yards, 35 touchdowns, and an overall QB rating of 60.4 with only 12 interceptions. But it it is no secret that the old Sam Darnold we all know too well came back during their first playoff game as his game depleted massively.

Seattle needed a quarterback, they did, but was Sam Darnold at over $30 million a year the right guy? Darnold definitely has the ability to be a great QB for the Seahawks, but after one good year in a very good system amongst a number of bad, really bad ones, Seattle may have jumped the bullet a little bit too early on this one. With a clear lack of offensive weapons on the Seahawks, Darnold will have to deal with the comedown for Justin Jefferson, and TJ Hockenson, top Jaxson Smith-Njigba and Noah Fant, and the Seahawks and their fans will be hoping their massive $100 million plus gamble will have the ability to make those around him look even better.

With Darnold only being 27 there is some margin for error with Darnold, but with him only being a slight overall upgrade on Geno Smith, the Seahawks will have to pray their gamble pays off and that Darnold is really the man for the job otherwise it will be a decision they will never live down.
