An opening night 20-27 loss to Georgia Tech wasn't exactly what Coach Prime would have had planned for the dawn of a new day in Colorado, and big changes could come earlier than expected. A tough night for the offense despite scoring 20 points, and a tough night overall for the coaching staff following a very unusual 2 minute drill, one question defeated all, when will Deion Sanders unleash 5 star high school recruit Julian Lewis as QB1?

The freshman who was the number one ranked player out of high school last season committed to coach prime’s setup in Colorado after a very successful campaign last season, however after being beaten out by 22 year old Liberty transfer Kaidon Slater, he most definitely had his work cut out for him to earn the starters job. Although, after an underwhelming first impression by Slater against Georgia Tech, Lewis could find himself on the field before we know it, and the freshman may have a big part of Deion Sanders’ offense quicker than expected.

Lewis, who clocked in at 189 pounds, and 6 feet, was a five star recruit with a full ride at Colorado back in the winter of last year, and after being beaten to the job by Slater, it looked as if his CFB career would start as a sophomore. During his final season at Carrollton High School, Lewis put up some insane stat lines, making him more than worthy of his five star rating. Passing for almost 4,000 yards with just over a 75% completion rate, passing for 48 touchdowns while scoring 2 rushing touchdowns of his own, and led his team to a 14-1 season, making him one of the most successful QB’s to have been grown via Carrollton. After dodging LSU, Michigan, and even Ohio State, Lewis made the big decision to put his faith in Deion Sanders’ setup in Colorado, and after being named QB2, that may not last as long as we thought.

As Slater had an underwhelming 17/28, 159 yard game, passing for only a single touchdown, and adding a loss to his tally already, Slater’s first impression wasn't the greatest, and a bounce back game against Delaware is massive in order for him to keep his starting job. Although Salter has the dual threat and college experience and success that Lewis hasn't, Lewis’ production and elite passing ability alone may be enough to convince Sanders to make a swift QB change, and although it is a big risk starting a freshman in the early stages, Julian Lewis is the real deal, and it could only take him three or four weeks to lace up as a starter.
