As the Detroit Lions begin to get out of first gear after dismantling Lamar Jackson and the Ravens last night, one thing has become clear, and one player has proved why he is the most important piece of the Lions offense. Not Jarred Goff, and not Jahmyr Gibbs, but Amon-Ra St Brown who is not only making his case as the best player on the Lions, but as the best receiver in the NFL.

Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb are the more talked about names when it comes to the best wide receiver in the league conversation, but after a tricky week one matchup against Green Bay, Amon-Ra St Brown of the Detroit Lions is proving why his name deserves to be in the conversation more than anybody.

Through the first three game weeks of the NFL, St Brown has really picked up and found his game after a tough start against Matt LeFleur’s Green Bay Packers, and after two highlight package games against both the Bears and the Ravens, Amon-Ra could easily be considered the best receiver currently in the NFL. Pulling in four touchdowns, three against the Bears, and a massive haul in TD against the Ravens, among receivers in the league he currently leads the league in TD’s, and his other stats only make him look better.

237 yards from 20 receptions, averaging just under 12 yards per game is something that stands out, and how he elevated his game after a measly 45 yard game against Green Bay, he is now once again proving that he is the big game, prime time receiver that the Lions can lean on. Being surrounded by these great receivers across the league like former LSU teammates Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jeffersson, he is currently four yards behind Chase while having one less reception, but is leading both Lamb and Jefferson in almost all categories, all while being surrounded by excellent receivers in Detroit.

Not only do the stats reflect how good Amon-Ra has been this season, and how important he will continue to be for Detroit, but it is what he promises, and how comfortable and reliable he is across the field. As a elite slot receivers, lethal deep ball threat, and a handy outside receiver, Amon-Ra is the perfect package for a team like Detroit who like the pass the ball and spread the play across the entire receiving core, but in the big moments when they need a big play, there is no better or reliable players than Amon-Ra St Brown, and he could well be the NFL’s best wide receiver, and will only continue to improve.
