Ja Morant and the Timberwolves are a Match Made in Heaven

It seems as if the spark between Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies has slowly started to deteriorate, and things aren’t as good as they used to be. Only three years ago the Grizzlies were one of the most exciting and entertaining teams in the NBA, however now, it looks like that spark is gone, and maybe trading Ja is the way to go. As far as where he fits best goes, Minnesota looks like a place where he could thrive and find his elite game again, and with how his game is looking so far this season, some elite company on offense could be what he needs.

The Timberwolves have been one of the standout teams in a very competitive western conference over the last two seasons, and Anthony Edwards in particular has become a guy they have complete and utter faith in. Edwards, who is the number one guy now in Minnesota has had a lot of competent service over the last few seasons with teammates such as Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo, but what if Ja Morant was to join forces with Antman.

So far this season, Ja is averaging a solid 20.4 points, but most importantly, 7.1 assists per game. As a point guard who excels in the paint and as a playmaker, it is an understatement to say that he is an upgrade on DiVincenzo, and his playmaking abilities just look too good of a compliment to Ant’s game. Ja is not only a guy who will be an offensive weapon, but in a system like Minnesota’s where they like to be aggressive in the paint, and make tricky plays, somebody with the athleticism and poise in tight spaces like Ja Morant is nothing short of perfect, and if he was to land on the trade block, Minnesota would jump at the chance to bring him in.

The Grizzlies are sitting at 3-5 so far on the season, and Ja is currently in his third year of a five year, $197 million deal, a deal which is slowly becoming one that the Grizzlies are overpaying. With how quickly the talent and overall performances have depleted in Memphis, clearing almost $40 million in cap space would be massive for them had they decided to take a new direction, and for what they can get back for him, it could end up being a no brainer, and a situation which benefits them too well. Sending him to a team like the Timberwolves makes a lot of sense purely because of the situation he will end up in favours him and where he wants to be, and the haul they could get is massive for sending him to a team that doesn't threaten them at all. It will be a tricky decision, but one that could be franchise changing for Memphis.
