After defeating Magomed Ankalaev back in October of last year, former light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will make the move up to heavyweight, vacating his LHW title in search of the heavyweight title this year. Pereira who is on course to become the first ever three weight class UFC champion announced his move up to heavyweight yesterday, and a date with Cyril Gane could be on the cards this year.

This year the anticipated White House card is one of the most exciting promotions in sports entertainment, and with one of the sports best Alex Pereira making the heavyweight division a whole lot better, it looks like he will make his way to Washington D.C in the summer. With Tom Aspinall still fighting a tough eye injury following his first heavyweight title defense against Gane, Pereira may now be poised to step in to compete for the interim heavyweight championship against Gane, and gives us a matchup that is built for a card like the White House card.

With ongoing doubts about Ilia Topuria’s appearance on the card, a matchup like Pereira and Gane is massive for the sport, and especially massive for the dying heavyweight division. Having an elite striker and extremely well rounded fighter like Pereira step up to the division, had he won the interim title and become the first fighter in UFC history to conquer three different weight classes, a matchup against current champion Tom Aspinall would be massive, and a fight all fans would love to see.

Pereira who has dominated the light heavyweight and the middleweight division looks perfectly set and made for heavyweight. Despite taking a few shock losses like his middleweight title loss to Israel Adesanya, the move up to heavyweight is where he belongs, and will make for some very good fights in the future. In terms of the White House card, it is hard to see Gane and Pereira not matched up for the interim title, and it looks like a fight made for such a massive promotion. Periera’s move up is something that has been in the works for a while, and the light heavyweight and heavyweight title situations will now become even better with the move going forward.
