The Patriots Make Grade A Signing In Diggs

Arguably the biggest need for Drake Maye and the Patriots this offseason was a number one wide receiver, but as time went on in this year’s free agency, all signs were pointing at the draft where they would pick up their next franchise WR. But last night, the Patriots arguably made a grade A signing by bringing former All-pro receiver Stefon Diggs back to the AFC East on a three year $69 million max deal, to fire up their offense completely for the 2025/26 season.

The Patriots picked up quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall pick in last year's draft as they hoped he could become the face of the franchise in New England after a long period of an unstable quarterback room. Maye instantly impressed after earning the starting job in week six, but one key area was preventing Maye from reaching his full potential, the guide receiving core. With Kendrick Bourne being Maye’s number one target, it was without a doubt the main area to improve heading into free agency, and Stefon Diggs was the man.

Diggs, who spent last season with the Texans, played only eight games after suffering a bad knee injury, but declining performances has Texans fans scratching their heads over his future in Houston. Diggs definitely wasn't the same player as he was in Buffalo and Minnesota, but with his new move to New England, his journey to reinvigorate his career could be just over the horizon. Not only is Diggs a perfect player to produce on the field, but the four time pro-bowler will provide a perfect outlet for veteran advice for a young rookie like Maye, and is a perfect asset to feed off of. With a new player like Diggs in town, it means a new role model for Maye, and perfect person to lead Maye to his full potential.

Diggs is one of those guys who can be a perfect guy on and off the field, and in this instance it's a perfect move from Mike Vrabel and his new Patriots. Mixing veteran talent who know the game inside and out, with promising rookies who need some first hand advice from their teammates makes this signing a stellar one for New England, and a great bit of business to improve the team heading into next season.
