Sesko or Gyökeres? Assessing Their Premier League Impact So Far

Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres were two of the most prolific signings in the summer as two potentially world beating strikers made their way to the Premier League, but it hasn’t exactly panned out the way people may have thought. Both have had their moments, but haven’t been back page headlines week in, week out, but who has had the more successful start so far?

When Viktor Gyokeres came to Arsenal, it was the signing the world said they so desperately needed, and his goal scoring prowess will leap frog them into a new level. Similarly with Sesko, Manchester United have been missing a prolific striker for years, and the Slovenian wonderkid was supposedly their guy. With both coming over for ridiculously high fees of £60-80 million, the expectations were high, but the numbers don’t match the hype at all.

With only nine goals between them in a combined 38 total games, that natural goal scoring ability both seemed to have prior to their moves hasn’t translated to the Premier League, and much like many other big money signings, the pressure and expectation was really too much to handle. As for the stats, they are pretty much even; not one has got off to a flying start, and not one has really left any massive impact on their respective clubs success. Gyokeres came with a massive reputation of goal scoring, but has definitely struggled with the pace of the Premier League, and looks slow and too programmed to one position, somewhat not as dynamic as Sesko can be.

Sesko on the other hand looks rather adaptable. He looks solid when he drops in, and unlike Gyokeres, he looks a very viable option to open the attack up on the break, using his speed and power to hold the ball up and create space, not just finding open options and areas to shoot. Sure as a striker that's his job to score the goals, but as for value to the team, for me Sesko has more to offer, and with time will get to grips with the speed of the league, and will become a very viable goal scoring threat.
