Manchester City star striker Erling Haaland will be missing for the lineup after suffering a serious ankle injury against Bournemouth in the quarter finals of the FA cup on Sunday, but with City’s star signing Omar Marmoush likely to take the starting role up front for City, it could be the perfect time to prove himself to boss Pep Guardiola.

We all know that Guardiola always has star studded benches, and has an abundance of first team talent on the bench, but one player in particular this year who has already proved to Pep that he is the right man for the job is 26 year old Egyptian, Omar Marmoush. Marmoush was brought to the Etihad during the January transfer window for £59 million, and despite finding himself on the bench for a couple of games for City this year, he has already proved why he is worth every penny with some spectacular performances on the pitch.

But with Haaland potentially missing a substantial amount of time out of the lineup, it could be Marmoush’ time to really cement his place as a starter for city.

Marmoush has had an amazing season across all competitions, starting in Frankfurt, making a name for himself scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in 17 games in the Bundesliga, another 4 added to his goal tally in the Europa League. Much differently to Haaland you could say Marmoush isn't an out and out number nine, and prefers to play a more attacking midfielder or winger role, but with Haaland taking an absence, Marmoush will have a chance to prove his worth up top. It is clear the Egyptian can score goals, scoring a 14 minute hattrick against Newcastle immediately highlighted his exceptional eye for goal, but it is his other aspects of play which makes him more valuable up top for city. His passing and play making ability is second to none, his speed, creativity, and vision is something which puts him acres ahead of others with years of premier league experience, and may help him win some serious brownie points with Pep.

Haaland’s goal scoring ability is probably nowhere near anyone in world football, and is 100% the best goal scorer in the world, but with the current creativity and fluidity struggles within City’s game, Marmoush could be everything Pep was dreaming for. A striker with a much different style to Haaland could be a big change of pace the team needed, and had Marmoush put his skills to the test properly, and brought a much more creative feel to the team, his place in the team could be difficult to replace.
