Should the Bruins Test the Trade Market for Morgan Geekie?

For the Boston Bruins, it is going to be a very tough decision on whether to stick to the plan and get younger, potentially heading towards a full blown rebuild, or once again be buyers, and sacrifice their future for a short playoff run. However, one player who is only building his trade value even higher is Morgan Geekie, and come the trade deadline, if the Bruins decide to sell, he is a prime candidate, and they should already be testing his value.

For Bruins fans, Morgan Geekie is probably one of the only bright sparks in a team which doesn’t look so attractive. Geekie is a guy who has been a sneakily good playmaker and sniper for the Bruins over the last couple of years, and has gone on to be the right hand man of the likes of David Pastrnak. For Geekie he is right where he wants to be, and in a season which looked bleak for the Bruins, he is the guy who is providing, and he is the guy who stepped up when they needed him the most.

When the season started, names particularly like Pavel Zacha, Casey Mittlestadt, and Viktor Arvidsson were the guys who the Bruins would look to flip before the deadline, however with their value not being enough to gear up to get younger, and build another team, a guy like Geekie’s value is through the roof, and if the market looks like it did last year, the return would be monumental for the Bruins.

Geekie is currently tied for the most goals in the league so far with 14, and looks hotter than ever. He looks poised to be one of the NHL’s best sharpshooters, and has really taken yet another upwards step since last season. Last year the Bruins were a team which looked the opposite of their usual self, and made some very silly and unusual deadline moves, fast forward to the offseason where even more weird roster moves were made. General manager Don Sweeney made the announcement that the Bruins would aim to get younger and gear up to change the narrative of the team, however with how well their season is going so far, the Bruins could be in danger of digging themselves an even bigger hole.

As much as it would hurt the fans, it is only right that they explore the idea of making some big trades. Especially a guy like Geekie who is on a really nice deal, and a guy who looks playoff ready is an asset that could change the landscape of the Bruins future. Last year teams were giving up first round picks, and elite level prospects for guys way under Geekie’s level, so the Bruins should be listening now, and should keep their eyes peeled for any franchise changing moves.
