After what was probably one of the worst Super Bowl performances of all time, and definitely Patrick Mahomes worst game of all time, the NFL greatest of all time debate is officially over. Mahomes had the opportunity to make history in yesterday's Super Bowl, and become the first team to ever win a Super Bowl, but an extremely underwhelming showing by the Chiefs, has officially eliminated him from any further conversations around the GOAT debate.

The NFL GOAT debate has been one of the biggest and hottest talking points in sports for the last few years, and was 100% the debate on everyone's minds across the world coming into this year’s Super Bowl, with Patrick Mahomes having the opportunity to cement himself with the GOAT status. But after a 40-22 loss to the Eagles, being denied the coveted ‘Three-Peat’ Mahomes really hasn't helped himself in the debate.

After the loss to the Eagles in his fifth Super Bowl, it was clear it was one the Chiefs, and Mahomes worst performances ever. Throwing 2 game-changing interceptions, and being sacked six times by the fierce Eagles defense, it wasn't a night to remember for the three time Super Bowl champ, and may have cost him his opportunity at being regarded as the greatest NFL player in history.

But why exactly is the debate over? Here’s why.

The debate has always been Brady vs Mahomes, and in reality has been more one sided than most think. Following last night's loss, Mahomes stats in the big game are as follows- 3-2 record in the Superbowl, three time Super Bowl MVP, 10 passing touchdowns (three being void), and seven interceptions, including two blowout losses. On the other hand, his competition, and still the GOAT of the NFL Tom Brady has, a 7-3 record in the Super Bowl, five time Super Bowl MVP, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions, including the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. It's hard to compare the two purely based on facts because both stat lines are ridiculous and amazing, but it's easy to see how much of an impact, and valuable both were to their teams in the Super Bowl. For example, when the two matched up against each other in Super Bowl 55, it was as close as a decider in the GOAT debate we would have, Brady taking the blowout win for the Bucs in his first year with the team, truly solidifying his GOAT status. The Chiefs were held to zero touchdowns in the game, while Brady and the Bucs dismantled the team, highlighting the value Brady brings to any team he is on, and took a massive advantage in the goat debate by being the only QB at the time to beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

Don't get it twisted, Mahomes has done what barely anybody could do with the Chiefs, and playing in five Super Bowl’s before the age of 30 is a ridiculous feat, but hasn't had as much of an impact as Brady. Mahomes has had his fair share of comebacks, and late winning drives, but nothing will ever compare to Brady’s brilliance against Atlanta in Super Bowl 51 in what will always be known as the greatest comeback in NFL history. Although Mahomes has solidified his place as a top three quarterback of all time, Brady’s sheer accomplishments across seven Super Bowl victories clearly makes him the greatest of all time.

Now it's silly to say that the debate is a closed book, because with at least five or six more years playing the highest level of football, Mahomes still has the chance to win as many chips as Brady, but nobody will ever forget the two Super Bowls he has lost, two Super Bowls which will arguably go down as two of the worst Super Bowl performances of all time.
