Derrick Henry to break rushing record?

After capping off another great game, rushing for 68 yards, and 1 touchdown, Ravens running back Derrick Henry takes his yearly rushing tally to 1,120 yards on the season so far, only 100 more to beat the all-time season rushing record. The record currently held by the former Rams running back Eric Dickerson stands at 2,105 rushing yards in the 1984 NFL season, becoming one of only a few in history to rush for 2000+ yards in a single season. Although coming into the 2024/25 season, his longtime record had the potential to be broken after star running back Derrick Henry left the Tennessee Titans to join the powerhouse that is the Baltimore Ravens. Back in 2020, Henry rushed for 2,027 rushing yards, failing to beat dickerson's record by about 80 yards, but the story of the 2024/25 season could be much different. Following Baltimore’s 10th game of the season against Cincinnati, Henry now finds himself with 7 games remaining to defeat Dickerson’s record. The argument is spread as to whether Henry will achieve this record, but with 7 games remaining against rather weak defences, Henry will no doubt capitalise on the opportunity to break the record, and cement his name in the history books. Henry already has 5 games with over 100 rushing yards this season, including an astonishing 199 rushing yard game against the Buffalo Bills, and it's no question he will continue to put numbers like these on the board in the final 7 game weeks, and its looking extremely promising for not only Derrick Henry, but for the Baltimore Ravens with such an unstoppable force on their team.

Although breaking the rushing record is not the only accomplishment Henry will aim to achieve this year, as had he record over 2000 rushing yards this year, he will be the first player in NFL history to record two, 2000 yard rushing seasons in their career, which on its own is a feat not to be ignored. So far in his career, Henry has already surpassed legends of the game in rushing yards in a season including Chris Johnson, OJ Simpson and Bary Sanders, with only two more to beat to become arguably one of the greatest running backs of all time, Adrian Peterson, and Eric Dickerson.
