Julian Lewis commits to the university of Colorado

On Tuesday, five-star quarterback recruit Julian Lewis announced he will commit to playing for the Colorado Buffaloes in 2025.

The five-star recruit coming out of Carrollton High School announced on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday that he will continue his academic and athletic career at Colorado University and take on the quarterback role for the Buffaloes in the 2025 season as a freshman. With current star Buffaloes quarterback Shadeur Sanders leaving the team next year to declare for the NFL draft, the number two high school prospect Julian Lewis will take on the starting role in Colorado and will hope to see development exactly like Shadeur, right from his freshman year. Lewis’s decision to commit to Colorado has shocked the college football community and has really given the Buffaloes some credibility as a program by picking up the number two recruit, but many would argue it's no real surprise given Colorado’s recent success going 8-2 so far in the 2024 season. It’s obvious since ‘Primetime’ Deion Sanders has taken the role as head coach in Colorado that the Buffaloes have seen major improvement and have seen themselves amongst college football giants such as Alabama and Georgia, but not only has Sanders had an impact on the field, but a massive impact off the field too. The recruitment of Lewis shows how Sanders has made the Buffaloes a more than desirable college program, giving them their second winning season in 20 years and producing arguably two of the best prospects entering the 2025 NFL draft, so it's no surprise Lewis has jumped on the opportunity to join the rapidly growing program.

With both the number one and number three recruits in ESPN’s top 300 recruits list committed to big 10 teams, Lewis’s commitment to the Buffaloes has shown the true impact Sanders has made in his two years of coaching in Colorado by managing to draw one of the best upcoming prospects away from a big 10 program and the overall influence the team is beginning to have on top recruits. With Lewis stepping into the shoes of Shader Sanders in the 2025 season, it will not only keep the team on par with the big 10 such as Oregon and Miami, but will continue to grow the university’s influence on prospects in all sports and will continue the rapid growth and improvement of the football program in Colorado.

Following the acquisition of Lewis for the 2025 season, head coach Deion Sanders stated in an interview that ‘When we grab a freshman, we expect that guy to play,’ which not only highlights the faith the coaching staff in Colorado have towards Lewis, but the system Colorado has adapted differently to other college football programs by almost throwing rookies into the deep end and expecting the best from each player on the field. Lewis’s recent announcement really shows how Deion Sanders is one of the best things to ever happen to the Colorado Buffaloes, and his impact and influence he brings to the university's football program has given the team a status and market they never could have imagined three years ago.
