Are The London Knights The BEST Organisation In The OHL?

The green and yellow Knights secured their second straight OHL championship after knocking off the Oshawa Generals in the OHL playoffs as Flyers prospect Denver Barkey lifted the J. Ross Robertson cup for the second season in a row. With bundles of talent, and a culture that is second to none, the London Knights have reflected their success, securing their sixth OHL championship, and raising the argument that they are the best run team in the OHL.

The London Knights are notorious for producing great talent, and have often produced some of the NHL’s biggest stars. First round picks like Patrick Kane and John Tavares, Stanley Cup winners like Corey Perry, and Matthew Tkachuk, and household names like Mitch Marner, and Rick Nash, the list goes on, but their 2024/25 championship winning season may also have some talent to remember. Having 12 prospects under NHL contracts, some being first round picks like Oliver Bonk, and Easton Cowan, the Knights arent short on talent, and have even managed to make those fifth and sixth round picks look championship material, highlighting how well run they are as an organisation.

What the Knights do so well is the way they develop and maintain their players. It is too often we see young NHL prospects be lured by the bright lights of the National league, and sometimes are often pushed by their junior teams to follow their dreams, but in London’s case, they make sure every one of their players are up to standard, and ready for the big leagues. Those alumni like Matthew Tkachuk, and Pat Maroon were nurtured perfectly in London, and similarly in today's game, those late round picks like Denver Barkey have learned every majorly important value they need to know in order to be a solid NHL player, purely due to their junior league development.

Having won the championship comfortably, and having those first round prospects play their best hockey, the Knights are a team every junior player entering the OHL dreams of playing for. With an astounding track record of talent making it big in the NHL, and an amazing reputation for developing first and second round talent, London does everything that is right and needed for a young player to become great.

As the Memorial Cup awaits for the London Knights, it seems it will be Gavin McKenna and the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL who will look to take down the Knights, but with a team gelled so well like London is, it will be hard for Medicine Hat to take them down, and will be an opportunity for those who were already counted out from draft day to prove their worth. With a handful of London’s talent likely to depart at the end of the year, and a new beginning for the Knights in their defending season, the Knights have once again highlighted how they are the best ran organisation in the OHL, and arguably the most desirable team for any junior joining the OHL.
