My Top 5 IIHF Jerseys Of All Time

With the four nations faceoff right around the corner, and some new slick jerseys for Canada, Finland, Sweden, and America, here’s my top 5 international hockey jerseys of all time.

5. 2002 USA Winter Olympics Jersey

At number five, I've gone for the USA’s 2002 Olympic jersey, for me a statement jersey I will always remember. For me, this is one of the best USA jerseys of all time. The original United States logo, the crisps colour combos, and one aspect which sticks out to me the most, the star patches on the shoulders. A true Jersey for the ages. Not only is the way the jersey looks important, but the names of those who wore it. Jeremy Roenick, Chris Chelios, and Mike Modano were only a few of the names who got the opportunity to wear this jersey in 2002, and had the honour to have their names represented in the big red, white, and blue on this spectacular jersey.

4. 2005 Kazakhstan World Championships Jersey

Kazakhstan’s 2005 IIHF World championships jersey takes my number four spot for a very particular reason. For me, Kazakhstan have had some of the best jerseys in the game, but for me, their 2005 jersey just had a special feature which puts them in this list. The logo. Personally, I think Kazakhstan has the best logo after Russia, and their 2005 jersey displayed it brilliantly. The jersey does not particularly have much history compared to others on the list, but purely because of the beautiful sequence of colours on both the home and away jersey, it takes my number four spot, as one of the most unique and underrated jerseys in the game.

3. 2002 Finland Winter Olympics

ree

Similarly to number four, Finland’s 2002 winter Olympics threads make the list purely based on their logo and their colour scheme. There’s something about the light blue and dark blue combo, and the statement logos which make jerseys look good. Finland has always had good jerseys, but in 2002 they turned it up a notch. It also gets a high ranking on the list because of some of the people who repped this amazing jersey. The likes of Olli Jokinen and Teemu Selanne are just some who led Finland into battle in 2002, and their names big and bold on the back of that light blue jersey, made that Finland team much better, as a good jersey always means good things.

2. 2025 Canada Four Nations Faceoff

ree

Now you can say this is recency bias, but Canada’s fresh 2025 threads for the four nations faceoff is one of the best jerseys in hockey Canada history. With a history of generic badges and logos, and a consistent lack of originality and flair to their jerseys in the list 5 years, Canada really took it up a notch this year with those jerseys. The red and cream colour scheme, with the big maple leaf logo, with the subtle maple leaves around the midsection is just such a crisp look for Canada. Especially with how Fanatics are designing the new NHL jerseys, they definitely showed out and impressed for their first attempt at a Canada jersey. Unlike the recent jerseys Canada have repped, its style and swagger will definitely make them a stand out team in this years tournament, and nameplates in the black and cream like McDavid and Crosby, will be more fresh and sleek than ever before.

1. 2006 Canada Olympic Jersey Black

ree

And at the number one spot, and a rather obscure pick, I have chosen Canada’s 2006 Olympics jersey. But the black one. Canada don't particularly have the best history with black jerseys, and before the late 2010s and early 2020s, they hadn't ever really worn black jerseys. But in 2006, a jersey unlike any other before was worn by Canada, a jersey that will always be my favourite. For me, the subtle red and white panels across the shoulders and sides, matched with the alternate Maple leaf logo makes this jersey what it is. Players like Jarome Iginla and Rick Nash, were only a few out of an insane bunch of players who got to wear this jersey, and looked like some of the flyest players of all time. Not to mention the jersey being paired up with the black old school Nike helmets, the jersey complimented every aspect of the team on the ice.  The red maple leaf logo contrasting the black jersey was something special, and something that despite efforts, Canada has failed to ever replicate. But for me, this is the greatest international hockey jersey of all time.

Well there it is, my top 5 favourite international hockey jerseys ever. I want to see yours, and maybe you can convince me to change my mind! Hit us up on out twitter!
